A Taste of South Africa featuring the wines of Boekenhoutsekloof & Porseleinberg Please join us Wednesday March 26th, when we will explore the wines of Boekenhoutsekloof & Porseleinberg, two of South African most important wineries. And yes the Chocolate Block will be poured Wednesday March 26th at 6:00-7:30 for $20 Led by Lynton Kaiser from Boekenhoutsekloof Boekenhoutskloof History Boekenhoutskloof lies at the edge of the Franschhoek Valley. The Afrikaans name means ‘ravine of the Boekenhout’ – the Cape Beech tree used in traditional furniture making. Boekenhoutskloof’s labels depict some of the old chairs still seen in the homestead and represent the firm’s seven directors of whom chief winemaker and cellarmaster Marc Kent is one. The estate, established in 1776, was restored and vineyards planted in 1993, with syrah, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, grenache, semillon and viognier. Having recently invested in new land in the Swartland, Boekenhoutskloof is showing an increased commitment to this area of the Cape. Today, Marc Kent is the owner, chief winemaker, and driving force behind the dynamic farm. A maverick spirit, Marc is unafraid to experiment with the unconventional, but his principal commitment is to quality on every level and in every detail. Marc Kent also is responsible for the revolutionary Porseleinberg project that came about as a result of Kent’s search for premium Rhône grapes for his Boekenhoutskloof and Chocolate Block labels.
