The 1970 Beaulieu Vineyards Private Reserve Georges de Latour was fully mature, but pretty, soft and nicely balanced. Crushed flowers and a hint of tobacco lingered on the layered finish.

This is a very fine mature Californian Cabernet from one its stalwarts. The nose is slightly volatile at first, but calms down with aeration to reveal notes of black olive, Chai tea, a touch of the old farmyard although it is not bretty in any way. Throughout its time in glass it seems to become sweeter and riper and this comes through on the palate, which is plump at first, become more tart as it interacts with the air. Sweet Dorset plum, umeboshi and wild strawberry towards the finish with just a faint hint of peppermint on the aftertaste. This has lasted very well.
