Jeb Dunnuck: 92 Points
The first vintage for the Dillon family, who purchased this estate in 1997, the 1998 Château Nenin is a sexy, ripe, fully mature Pomerol that delivers the goods. Made from 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, it offers lots of chocolatey dark fruits, spice box, and dried herb aromatics, full body, terrific density, and ample density and texture. It’s not going to get any better but is terrific drink.
Wine Spectator: 92 Points
Crushed blackberries, with coffee and smoked meat on the nose. Full-bodied, with very velvety tannins and a long finish, with a beautiful mouthfeel.
Wine Advocate: 90 Points
The finest Nenin in many decades, the dense ruby/purple-colored 1998 exhibits aromas of coffee, melted caramel, vanilla, plums, and black cherry jam. It is full-bodied, with an unctuous texture, superb purity, and a silky, seamless finish. There is abundant tannin submerged beneath the wine's fatness and richness.
