Made with 50-year-old vines and vinified in oak, the 2023 Dolcetto d’Alba from Roagna underwent 100 days submerged cap maceration. It’s incredibly fragrant, offering heady aromas of violet, forest berry and white pepper that follow over to the palate along with ripe black cherry and licorice. Taut, refined tannins offer lithe support while and vibrant acidity provide balance and energy. Showing great drinkability, it will also maintain for several years but no need to wait. Drink through 2027. Abv: 13%.

The 2023 Dolcetto D'Alba was scheduled to bottled soon after I tasted it. A youthful purple/magenta color, it was spicy out of barrel, with a lovely lift of cracked pepper, fresh black raspberries, and purple flowers. It has good structure for this vintage, with medium body and snappy, fresh acidity. Drink it over the next several years.
