Gravner Description
Gravner "Breg" Rosso Venezia Giulia 2009 is a rare and distinctive red wine crafted by Josko Gravner, an iconic winemaker known for his pioneering approach and devotion to natural and traditional methods. Gravner's "Breg" line typically includes wines produced from carefully chosen sites in the hills of Oslavia, Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The "Breg" Rosso is made from Merlot and, occasionally, small additions of other traditional varieties. Gravner is recognized for using low-intervention techniques and aging his wines for extended periods to create a wine that embodies the essence of its terroir. The 2009 "Breg" Rosso follows Gravner's signature winemaking approach: after careful selection, the Merlot grapes undergo fermentation in large Georgian amphorae, buried underground to ensure natural temperature regulation. The wine undergoes extended maceration on the skins, allowing for a slow and gentle extraction of color, tannins, and flavors. After fermentation, the wine is aged for several years in large Slavonian oak barrels, which help develop its depth and complexity.
