Vinous: 98 Points
The Serra Pedace vineyard is a high-elevation site that was named after ancestors Frank and Rose Leonetti’s hometown in Calabria, Italy. The 2018 offers anise, tar and black licorice notes combined with suggestions of black cherry syrup on the nose. The palate shows good freshness and serious flavor density. crème de cassis and crème de violette flavors meld well with minerals, sweet pipe tobacco, creosote and shades of espresso grounds. This is a big, generous, weighty Cabernet Sauvignon, yet the focus and precision in the winemaking are really impressive. This is drinking beautifully even in its youth, but try to resist for at least a few more years if you can.
Wine Enthusiast: 96 Points
One of four vineyard designates in the winery's lineup, this is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. The aromas boast notes of graphite, savory herb, black cherry, anise and espresso. The palate explodes with dark, rich, creamy, seamless fruit flavors. The finish rolls into the distance. It's shockingly good. Don't touch until at least 2032. It will last as long as you keep it.
James Suckling: 96 Points
Ripe plums, stewed cherries, blueberries, mocha, black tea and sweet tobacco on the nose. It’s full-bodied with firm, polished tannins. Chewy and rich with great structure and texture. Long and intense. Always excellent.
