2022 MARGERUM "M5" SANTA BARBARA COUNTY RHONE BLEND, CALIFORNIA. 39% Grenache, 32% Syrah, 15% Mourvedre, 7% Cinsault, 7% Counoise.
M5 is Doug Margerum's quintessential Santa Barbara Rhone blend, what he describes as "a blend that is an amalgamation of memories, both distant and recent, from the numerous wines I have tasted and loved." Working with fruit from diverse Santa Barbara regions including Santa Ynez Valley, Ballard Canyon, Santa Maria Valley, Santa Rita Hills and Foxen Canyon, M5 is shows off the quality of the vintage and the exceptional terroir of Santa Barbara for Rhone varietals in this blend that gives the Southern Rhone a run for the money. Each varietal lot fermented separately and aged for ten months in used French oak, racked only once to blend before bottling. Displaying aromas and flavors of black and red fruit with floral, earthy spice accents. A ripe core of fruit is enveloped by suave tannins and the lip-smacking finish is laced with lingering notes of licorice, black pepper, and dark chocolate. For barbecued meats, braises, grilled sausage and hearty stews.
