Melville Winery Description
As the 2019 Estate Syrah begins to fill the glass with its signature dark violet color, one can’t help but to get excited. Instantly upon pouring, the aromatics begin to overflow and escape the glass, giving you a sneak peek of what’s to come. Fresh herbs and lavender fill the glass then give way to grilled meat and fresh, roasted cracked pepper. On the palate, the adventure begins with roasted blackberries, in season black plums, and cherry juice. A near perfect balance of silky tannins, juiciness, and velvet-like texture together create a symphony of flavor.
Our 2019 Estate Syrah was named a Top 100 Wine and awarded 95 points by Wine & Spirits magazine in their just-released 36th Annual Buying Guide. Of the 10,203 wines reviewed from producers across the globe, we are truly honored by this recognition and to be featured as one of only four California syrahs in the "Best Syrahs" category. An elegant wine with 'wildly exotic aromas'.

"The 2019 Syrah (Sta. Rita Hills) is intensely bold and savory. Black pepper, leather, lavender, spice and juniper berry are laced into the huge bouquet. Powerful and driving, the 2019 is a cool-climate Syrah of impact and depth. In this tasting, it is positively stellar. A few years in bottle will only help."
Wine Advocate: 93 Points
"The 2019 Syrah Estate has a medium ruby-purple color and is bursting with blackberry jam and blueberry aromas with broody tones of cast iron, chargrill, aniseed and dried herbs. The palate is lovely, with a balance of bright berry accents of savory, earthy tones. It has an abundance of finely grained tannins, notable freshness and lift, and a long, herbal finish."

"The 2019 Syrah Estate Sta. Rita Hills always seems to deliver. Revealing a ruby/plum color as well as peppery notes of red and black fruits, tapenade, and gamey meats, it's medium-bodied and has a supple, elegant texture, nicely integrated acidity, and a great finish. It's already drinking nicely yet will keep for 4-6 years."
