Decanter Magazine: 95 Points
This dynamic wine is blended from grapes purchased from two parts of the hill of Corton – most of it is from En Charlemagne in west-facing Pernande-Vergelesses, while nearly a third comes from a parcel in Les Languettes high on the slope in Aloxe. The two are very complimentary, and there is more of chalky minerality from the Pernand fruit and a riper, sweeter fruit with almost a hint of coconut from the Aloxe portion. The ripeness extends to the palate, and a density here carries the wine to the next level.
Burghound: 93-95 Points
Note: the proportions have changed again and in 2021 this is a blend of Les Languettes in Aloxe and En Charlemagne in Pernand. Firm reduction flattens the fruit today. More interesting are the succulent and concentrated larger-bodied flavors that retain a beguiling sense of energy that carries over to the intensely stony and hugely long finish where a touch of wood appears. This is tightly coiled and a wine that is going to require extended patience. *Burghound Sweet Spot!
Wine Advocate: 91-93 Points
There are only two barrels of the 2021 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, a medium to full-bodied, rich and layered wine evocative of minty orchard fruit, ripe citrus, buttery pastry and toasted nuts. With good mid-palate depth and a penetrating finish, it shows promise despite the challenging vintage.
