Jeb Dunnuck: 94 Points
From the village of Oger, the 2017 Champagne Grand Cru Les Vozemieux Extra Brut was aged for 10 months on the lees without stirring and was vinified and raised on oak barrels with malo. Pouring a bit deeper but youthful yellow color, the nose is assertive and powerful on opening, displaying the noble character of this village in a warm year. It reveals notes of preserved lemon, salty earth, toasted bread, and ripe pear. The palate is similarly assertive and rich, with a good deal of ripe, rich extract, but it remains fresh, with the texture of citrus oils coating the palate and a long, luxurious finish. It has both power and grace, without ever feeling austere or green, and has a lightly warming finish. Drink over the coming 15 years. It needs time to come into its own. It was disgorged in 2023 and saw zero dosage. Drink 2024-2040.
James Suckling: 94 Points
Elegant and fragrant with citrus-peel, roasted-nut and croissant aromas. Aromatic and creamy, with excellent freshness and an underlying chalky minerality throughout. Backbone of bright acidity. 100% chardonnay from Oger. 63 months on lees. Disgorged October 2023. 0g/L dosage. Drink or hold.
Wine Advocate: 93 Points
Sourced from two north-facing plots within the same lieu-dit in Oger, the 2017 Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Vozémieux, defined by its meter-deep clay topsoil, is one of the more demonstrative, fruit-forward wines in the cellar. Compared to Les Chétillons and Clos des Auges, which sit almost directly on chalk, Vozémieux delivers a rounder, slightly more ample wine. Framed by maturation in barrels previously used by producers in Chassagne-Montrachet and Maranges, it soars from the glass with a bouquet of elderflower, brioche, pine nut and pear. Medium to full-bodied, enveloping and laden with ripe but vibrant acids, it is a more generous edition compared to the 2016. It was disgorged in October 2023 without dosage. Drink 2024-2034
Vinous: 92 Points
Moncuit’s 2017 Extra Brut Les Vozémieux emerges from a site in Oger. Vinification in barrel fills out the contours nicely. Vinous and resonant, the 2017 is an excellent choice for readers who enjoy Champagnes with a bit of the complexity found in older wines. Dried flowers, spice, chamomile, tangerine peel and light pastry notes all build in the glass. Bottled with no dosage. Disgorged: March 2023. Drink 2024-2030
