On the clays, the wine is fuller and more powerful. The tannins are more marked with an architectural character that takes time to polish. Its texture, which is more solid than the estate's other Vosne-Romanée cuvées, provides an additional body. Clavelier's 2021 Vosne-Romanée Les Hautes Maizières Vieilles Vignes is gorgeous. It possesses a real core of inner strength, naturally in the more restrained style of the year. Even so, there is terrific potential, especially if this softens with age. Dark cherry, plum, dried herbs, lavender and incense lend notable character to this deceptively mid-weight Vosne. I would love to taste this from bottle. Drink: 2024-2036.
