Vinous: 93-95 Points
The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Cailles 1er Cru has a bold and forthright bouquet with black cherries, black plum, crushed violet and just a touch of fig. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannins and gentle grip. It is fresher on the finish than the Les Pruliers, with fine tension and length. This is very promising - the terroir shows through beautifully.
Burghound: 92-95 Points
Note: from a 1.12 ha parcel of 75+ year old vines. An ultra-fresh nose exhibits an airy array of essence of red cherry, cranberry and lavender that is trimmed in noticeable but not intrusive wood. The cool, pure and equally fresh medium weight flavors possess terrific vibrancy along with first-rate delineation on the refined, focused and youthfully austere finish that delivers sneaky good length. The innate class of a fine Cailles is clearly present and I very much like the overall sense of harmony. If you can find it, buy it.
Wine Advocate: 92-94 Points
The 2022 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Cailles is serious and concentrated, unfurling in the glass with aromas of raspberries and plums mingled with orange zest, peonies and sweet spices. Medium to full-bodied, supple and seamless, with a deep and layered core of fruit, refined tannins and a resonant finish, it's a terrific wine in the making. Domaine Robert Chevillon is one of my favorite addresses in all of Burgundy, producing hearty, characterful wines that stand the test of time. Old vines, cultivated soils, moderate yields and long macerations at comparatively high temperatures with entirely destemmed grapes are the order of the day at this address, with the Nuits-Saint-Georges Vieilles Vignes seeing some 20% new oak and the premiers crus 30%. Nuits's Tonnellerie Sirugue is the dominant supplier of barrels.
