Famille Brechet Description
Grape varieties: White Grenache 70%, Roussanne 22% and Clairette 8%.
Terroir: This vintage is a blend of our best plots of white Grenache, Roussanne and Clairette on rolled pebble soil and gray flint limestone.
Harvest: The grapes were harvested manually between August 22 and September 1, depending on the maturity of each grape variety.
Winemaking: The grapes are picked by hand, early in the morning to maintain freshness, sorted and placed in boxes to limit crushing. The bunches are gently pressed in a pneumatic press. The musts are selected, then sent to the stainless steel vat room. After settling in the cold, part of the Grenaches are put into barrels to carry out alcoholic fermentation. Breeding Aging for 9 months in barrels.
Tasting: Pale gold color with silver highlights. A nose that opens with notes of white flowers and sweet spices, then lightly toasted brioche. The attack is lively and frank, then the roundness provided by the aging envelops the taste buds. The finish is long and confirms the impression of minerality felt on attack. To be enjoyed now and for 10 years.
Jeb Dunnuck: 91-93 Points
The base cuvée from this address is a perennial winner and always worth your time and money. The 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape shows the house style as well as the vintage, offering a beautiful red-fruited and floral perfume, medium to full-bodied richness, no hard edges, and a layered, ripe, seamless mouthful of fruit. It's already hard to resist, and while it will keep for a decade, I see no need to delay gratification either. This Cuvée is 54% Grenache, 23% Syrah, and the rest Mourvèdre and Cinsault that was destemmed and brought up in a mix of demi-muids, foudre, and old barrels.
